Visit The Covina Farmers Market
One thing we stress with our dental patients again and again is the necessity of eating right. You can clean your teeth, floss them, rinse with mouthwash and clean your tongue, but if your diet is unhealthy you will continue to court cavities and gum disease.
Bacteria just love sugars, especially the sugars found in processed food and soda. Soda, in particular, can serve to weaken your tooth enamel over time. In addition, the vitamins and minerals found in a balanced diet can really help strengthen your jawbone, your gums, and your teeth.
A lot of people don’t like eating their fruits and vegetables, but it doesn’t have to be onerous. That’s why many of our staff members enjoy visiting the Covina Farmer’s Market. The market is open every Friday between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM on the corner of Citrus Avenue and San Bernadino Road.
Fresh produce just tastes better. It’s got more flavor and looks a lot more appealing. Choosing a rich, ripe, fresh apple right off a farmer’s cart is a very different experience from eating one of those waxed, tasteless apples we so often find at the grocery store.
The Covina Farmer’s Market is even open in the winter season, which means you can continue to enjoy this great, fresh food all year long.
Keep in mind that everything at the market isn’t healthy. The strawberry funnel cake probably isn’t going to do your teeth any favors. It certainly smells amazing and looks amazing, but you’re not going to get any health benefits out of it! There are plenty of organic veggies, but there’s something of a “faire” atmosphere there. There’s plenty of heavily fried and fatty food to be found.
In fact, some visitors do get a bit overwhelmed by all the prepared food and craft stalls. There’s one really huge organic produce stall, however, that will help you get the really tasty, healthy food we’re talking about. There’s also a booth that’s overflowing with really luscious strawberries.
Don’t have time to visit the Covina Farmer’s Market? Sometimes eating healthy is all in how you prepare the food. For example, instead of eating ice cream you can freeze bananas and run them through the food processor. The consistency is a lot like those Dots ice creams they always sell at amusement parks, and it tastes amazing. You don’t have to eat soggy canned asparagus or overcooked broccoli—eating healthy can be fun as well as great for your teeth.
Once you've experienced the market, come on over and visit our Covina Dental Office to schedule a cleaning.
